CMC is produced by the reaction of cellulose with sodium hydroxide and monochloro acetic acid

TECHNOLOGICAL REASONS FOR USE

• Many types are available with especially adapted varieties for numerous applications.

• Preservation of properties within very narrow limits.

• Very small concentrations are required

• Freeze - thaw stabilization.

• It has better resistance towards micro - organisms that any unmodified natural products.

• It is colourless & odourless .

• It is easily soluble, even in cold water

• Binding and thickening

• Suspending and stabilizing.

• Emulsifying

• Forming protective film

• Improving rheological properties.

• Preventing growth if crystals.

• Preventing synergies of starch containing products.

APPLICATION

• PAINT INDUSTRIES

• In paint manufacturer CMC is used as a viscosity control agent in emulsion paints, where it also has a beneficial influence or brush ability.

In distempers it is used as a binder porous surfaces like wall board, plaster etc. are sized with a CMC solution before the application of oil paint. CMC is an excellent bodying agent for filters.
